Mma Guy That Does Funny Staredowns

The staredown is one of the most exciting parts of any MMA fight. It's the last time the two fighters will be face to face without throwing a punch (there is one exception).

Some fighters will try to scare the crap out of the opposition. Some like to have a little last second fun before engaging in combat.

The following 10 fighters have the best staredowns in the game.

10. Heath Herring

"The New Year's Eve Kiss." That is all. That was enough to earn him a spot in the top 10.

9. The Emelianenko Brothers (Fedor and Aleks)

After a lot of deliberation, I can't put one on the list and leave the other out. I was just going to put Fedor here, but I feel that snubbing Aleks is wrong.

Fedor is a stone wall, much like Mirko, while Aleks totally ignores his opponent and instead listens to the ref. Aleks/Thompson makes me laugh because James takes the staredown so seriously, while Aleks takes the time to pick his nose and refuse to make eye contact with "Colossus."

Fedor takes the emotionless route, which no doubt works for him, but none of his staredowns are too impressive.

8. Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett

Imagine how good this guy could be if he actually took the sport seriously. Instead, he prefers to entertain the fans at home by disrespecting his opponents, referees, and anyone else he can find.

He is funny though. I'll give him that. The way he completely ignores both the ref and his opponent, and instead shines his grill to the camera, is just great. If only he would be more original, maybe he could have been higher than No. 8

7. James Thompson

I don't care what happened with Kevin Ferguson. I really don't. This guy has the ability to make me crap my pants. Any fight you watch with this guy, you will see him stare a hole through his opponent.

The best example is Thompson vs. Aleks Emelianenko. He may have lost that fight, but he showed absolutely no fear. It's like he had no idea whose brother he was about to fight.

6. Keith Jardine

I'm ready, ref, please stop talking so I can start leaving the imprints of my fist in this guy's face. That is the message Jardine conveys during staredowns.

His staredown with Wand was great because he went face to face with one of the best in the game, and didn't look even the slightest bit scared.

One thing about Jardine is that his psych outs don't stop when he backs up to the cage. He continues his mind games in that he leans in with that scary face like he's ready to sprint at you like Ussain Bolt. Unfortunately, he is too inconsistent to be seen as a real threat, thus making his staredowns simply for show.

5. Mirko Cro Cop

This guy has more than just KO power. He can psych you out, too. His staredowns are, in a word, emotionless. He doesn't show fear, he doesn't show excitement, all he does is stand there. And that is awesome. If only he could have ignored Josh Barnett in that staredown, he could have been higher.

4. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

Maybe the most well-rounded starer downers in the game. h he can intimidate you, or try and make you laugh. He can get in your face and make you wish you never talked all that trash, or he can hand you a note that his mother wrote asking you not to hurt her baby boy. (Yes, that actually happened.)

Yet for some reason, he is only No. 4. Why is that? Because he couldn't psych out Forrest. Had he held on to the title, he could have been higher, but dropping the title to one of the least intimidating guys in the game, makes you just a little less intimidating yourself.

3. Josh Barnett

Did you really think I could exclude this guy? By far the funniest staredowns in MMA. He is the reason why Mirko is at only No. 5. The infamous eyelash incident was one of the funniest staredowns I've ever watched. His exclamation of "no flying butt drops" in his staredown with Mark Hunt is a classic.

But, in order to be No. 1 on this list, you have to be serious.

2. Wanderlei Silva

I swear Wand just tries to piss his opponent off during staredowns. From his always smiling face to his seemingly uncontrollable movement, he never seems intimidated. And why should he be? For years he has been one of the best LHW's in the world.

I'm sure it probably has something to do with his willingness to stand with anyone, his relentless frame of mind that makes being across the cage from him a nightmare for any fighter. Or maybe, it's his confidence that he can KO anyone, and that nobody on this earth can psych him out. (His staredown with Mirko is absolutely legendary.)

1. Don Frye

I'm not afraid to say it; this 42-year-old fight machine scares the crap out of me. Before you continue reading, I want you to go watch Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama...

Holy crap, I'm pretty sure if that would have been me across from Don, I would have literally crapped my pants. Hell, I think if I were Yoshihiro's cornerman I probably would have at least peed a little. If you want emotion from Don, watch his staredown with James Thompson. The ref actually had to interject to stop these guys from eating each other's faces off.

These 10 guys range from fighters that try to do anything and everything they can to piss you off, to trying to get you to pee yourself. That's why they are the best.
